Starting close to home – recognising affordance in design
This lamp is something that I bought in preparation move out for the first time while coming to university. It is something that I ordered online and chose for its aesthetic purposes mainly – something I’ve since regretted!
Although it looks nice, the lamp doesn’t function as I’d like it to, and for this reason I no longer like it. Firstly, the wire looks messy. I need the switch to be easily accessible but the only way of doing this with my desk is to have it sticking out as pictured. Moreover, whenever I’ve had visitors, each have mistaken the unfunctional rounded brass piece on the base for the switch. Although minor things, these small issues frustrate me and therefore, affect my user experience with this lamp making it an unpleasant one.
