Ideation update – I can’t quite pinpoint why, but I’m really struggling to generate ideas and put them to paper for this project. Initially, I thought it would be easier because we have an artist and art piece to take inspiration from for the first time. I think I might be narrowing my focus too much on this and therefore I’m not being able to come up with a broad range of innovative ideas. I also think I’m putting too much pressure on myself to come up with ‘good’ ideas instantly when I know, that isn’t neccessarily or almost always isn’t the case – I need to be less afraid and be more fluid with my ideas. I don’t think being at home is helping either as I live in the countryside, although its great for inspiring organic ideas, there aren’t any relevant shops I can explore for further inspiration or ideas. Internet exploring is great but being able to see, touch and experience a product gives you so much more insight into the user experience. So, when I get back to Cardiff, I plan to visit a broad range of lighting shops in order to gain more research and moreover, inspiration to move forward with my designs from the current frustrating block I’m finding myself in every time Im putting my pencil to paper. What I can say though, is that I’m certainly becoming far more aware of lighting solutions and noticing all types of lighting in different places I go. For instance, in the past I wouldn’t always have looked up in rooms to look at the lights but now I’m noticing myself subconsciously doing it when I enter a new room/place – if nothing, I can definitely count this as a positive so far.
